Geo Fence

It’s the first time I’ve heard about a geo-fence (just found it on wikipedia) sounds like a great idea that you could track someone into an unauthorised area by tracking there mobile phones. See the Register article about it here.  Just one small thing unless I’ve missed something what happens if the mobile phone is turned off and you walk into the area!  For general purpose where were you at the time its good technology to ‘potentially’ prove you were in a certain location.

I have to admit I’m not the best person recently to ensure that I have my phone on my all the time and sometimes I have it on me but there is no charge in it!  The technology and idea sounds great but to secure something like the olympics it sees flawed.  Now I suspect there will be more than just geo-fencing meaning CCTV and personel around to catch these people with there phones off or left at home.

I can see some great use for this technology in the realm of mobile games that are coming along, where you play against people in the really world.  It would mean that there could be boundaries to the game and points off if you went outside this area.  Maybe that will be the next big thing in mobile reality gaming….

Farm Town is the new gaming application on the sence, I join in yesterday and I think I might be an addict already!!! Its on the same par as Scabulous (that is if you were any good at scrabble of course).  So whats it all about, when the application is installed the user is given a “plot” of land to use as a farm to plow, grow, harvest and sell the crops.  Whats the aim of the game well to be better than everyone else isn’t that the point of most games .  The graphics are fantastically done and as my other half reminded her of transport tycoon probably the best game that was ever made for the PC.

Its also possible to plant fruit trees and also to have animals living on the farm, since I’ve not been on the game long enough I do not have that good screen shots.  But looking through all the things that can be brought if you become a serious player is Houses, ponds, rivers, larger farms the list is endless.  Currently the game is in beta so I’m sure this list will grow over time.

This screenshot is of my farm but as you can see its not that large yet, but if you save up your pennies or if you have more money then sense if you ask me you can pay money by using paypal.

This is a friends farm who has been playing a couple of weeks now and so has a HUGE farm.  Its great that you can wonder around other peoples farms and look what people have done.  Its also possible to get jobs working for others if your farm isnt satisfying the addition.
