Driver components mis-match. Exit is the only option

I had not used Autopano since a windows update had happened so the only thing I could think of was that the upgrade had screwed something up in the openGL drivers. Thanks Windows Update!!!! Well after a quick search of the internet (what would we do without it), I found ouat that the only option was to upgrade my graphics drivers. Well as I’ve mentioned before on this blog I tried this last time with bad results. But since I wanted to use my program I had to take the plunge.

Instead of using windows update because the last time I tried it all went abit wrong…. I thought I would download it directly from nvidia and hopefully the same problem would not happen. The upgrade looked to be all going well until suddenly black screen and then a signal input out of range.

Well I was in abit of a whole now how can I get my computer back. Well I tried rebooting without any results, so the internet was called on again for the second time. Reading a number of posts it appeared that the upgrade had for some reason placed the hertz setting incorrect meaning that the monitor could no longer output the desktop. There answer appeared to be boot into safe mode and change the screen hertz. So into safe mode I went, unfortunately after a number of reboots and attempts into safe mode I found out that it appears to be no possible to a) set the hertz or b) change the screen resolution for the normal windows only for the safe mode version.

So after alittle while of thinking and more reboots I decided to install realvnc in safe mode. All looked good and I rebooted into normal windows. Sadly the settings for vnc were not correct meaning I could not connect. So back into safe mode I went and rollback the graphics drivers. I rebooted the computer and setup vnc correctly and then used a netbook to connect. I upgraded the drivers to the latest version and the screen went blank. But vnc kept working from my netbook. Success I could then change the settings on the display so that I no longer got the input out of range errors.

It turned out that the internet posts were wrong for my situation, it was not the hertz that was the problem but the screen size. I lower the screen size and the desktop appeared on my monitor. Its a real pain that it took that much effort to upgrade my drivers just to use a program. Thankfully I’m quite techie but alot of others would have had to take the computer to a repair shop. Surely a) MS should allow safe mode to set normal windows resolution some how, and b) the nvidia drivers should have done something about trying a number of resolutions this encase it did not work.

why not the firewire card is not working and so I might as well let it upgrade things and maybe just maybe it would kick it into life. At the same time I thought I’d look at what else there was in the recommended and optional areas. Turns out my Graphics card drivers were out of date so hit the update button on them to.

Big Mistake….. after the drivers were installed and the reboot kicked in something was not quite right. The screen size was abit off and everytime that I tried to increase the size all I got was a black screen. Seems really odd to put out an update that does not cope with the highest resolution. Thankfully as a Computer geek I know how to roll back the drivers and I’ve got my lovely screen size back again.

I suppose its possible that my card is too old and does not cope with the upgrade correctly, but does seem strange oh well.
