Well after my previous post I just had to go looking for a video of Buddy Holly by Weezer and there was a number of hits from google shame that for some reason I was not allowed to view them in my country. Oh well here is a couple of links that I found even one with the orginial from the Windows 95 CD:

Windows 95 Logo

While I was thinking about this I was sure that Weezer were on Guitar Hero III as well. Another google search and low and behold they were with the track ‘My Name is Jonas’ and the number of hits I got for videos of people playing it, but here is one of them:

UPDATE: Actually after watching the above one in full its not as good a quality as this one:

Its the screen that all software Engineers fear the dreaded blue screen of death (BSOD for short). Back in the good old days of Windows 98 when you kind of expected to see these on a regular occurrence (at least once a day if not once an hour) you kind of got use to them. It was about that time when the BSOD started to become a know and recognised term for these horrible “oh my god something has gone badly wrong, I’m getting out of here as quick as possible.

Blue Screen of Death (BSOD)

Its odd because I remember Windows 95 (I still remember the music that came with it Buddy Holly by Wezzer) and I’m sure that we never use to see these dreaded screens or maybe that is just my rubbish memory kicking in. Maybe they had not coded that part yet and it just used to go BANG instead….

Anyway enough of the past and more of the present / future. I’ve been using Windows 2000 / XP / Vista for the last 9 years with less and less BSOD screens as each release has come out. Hopefully Windows 7 will have got rid of them complete. If I was a Microsoft Engineer I think I would change the colour just to annoy all the blogs in the world (sad but true).

Well recently my laptop seems to be getting them more and more often and usually at the worst possible moments. These days it usually means the hardware is on its last legs…. oh well only time will tell I suppose.
