Ok so I did not quite do this but it is practically the same thing!!!!

After realising that my new computer did not have a firewire port to enable me to download some video from a camcorder I rushed out to purchase a firewire card (well rushed was more of a lazy car journey to the nearest cheapest retailer).  Got the card back home and dug around for the screw driver – I’m sure that they move around the house on there own!!!! I got the computer open to the elements and after abit of poking at the case I released how the PCI cards were suppose to go in*.

Firewire card

Booted up the computer and hoped for the best thinking everything should work…. however sods law states that nothing ever works first time.  Connected the camcorder and nothing was magically installed by the Plug ‘n’ Play like I would have expected.  So off to device manager and I have a nice little exclamation mark next to the firewire card, saying that error code 10 has occurred and the device hasn’t started, ummmmm.

After abit of time and a number of reboots I thought maybe the PCI slot is bust.  So open up the computer again and pull out the card and I thought just incase I’ll put the card back in the same PCI slot and try again.  Reboot the computer (case still off).

Magic dust enters the computer and the PCI card magically starts working.  It must be a miracle same slot (looks to be in the same position) and now it works and I can download all my video.  Sometimes I hate computers!!!! But the moral of the story is that turn it off and on again or pull it out and put it back in again and it might just work….

* This may sound stupid but it had a really odd way of getting the PCI cards!!!! into the case nothing that I’ve seen before.
